Dependable GAF Performance at a Practical Price Point

Timberline HDZ® is built for homeowners who want a dependable architectural shingle with a strong mix of style, performance, and value. Its balanced design makes it a practical fit for a wide range of homes, especially when you want a roof that looks polished without moving into a higher-end designer category.

AC Matthews Roofing & Exteriors can help you determine whether Timberline HDZ® is the right fit for your home, budget, and roofing goals. From product selection through installation, our team focuses on building a complete system that’s designed to perform as well as it looks.

Why Timberline HDZ® Is a Popular Choice

Timberline HDZ Williamsburg slate shingles installed by AC Matthews.

Timberline UHDZ® combines a more dimensional architectural look with enhanced performance features, making it a strong choice for homeowners who want both standout curb appeal and added protection from their roofing system.

Timberline HDZ® gives you many of the advantages of a modern architectural shingle at a lower price point than Timberline UHDZ® and GAF’s designer shingle options. It’s a practical fit if you want dependable performance and dimensional style while keeping the overall roofing investment in check.

Timberline HDZ® is available in a range of dimensional color blends designed to add contrast and definition across your roof. The variety of options also makes it easier to coordinate your new roof with brick, siding, stone, trim, and other exterior finishes.

Impact ratings are based on controlled laboratory testing and do not guarantee protection against hail or storm damage.

LayerLock® technology mechanically secures the overlapping shingle layers, while the StrikeZone® nailing area gives installers a larger target for proper fastening. These features are designed to promote accurate installation and strengthen the shingle’s wind performance.

Qualifying Timberline HDZ® shingles meet the UL 2218 Class 3 impact-resistance standard, giving your roof added protection against impacts from hail and other debris.

GAF’s time-release algae-fighting technology is designed to combat the blue-green algae that can leave dark streaks across your roof. This can help preserve the appearance of your shingles in conditions where algae growth is more likely.

If your Timberline HDZ® roof is installed with the required combination of qualifying GAF accessories, it may be eligible for the WindProven™ Limited Wind Warranty, which has no maximum wind-speed limitation under its applicable terms. This coverage is tied to the complete roofing system rather than the shingles alone.

HDZ or UHDZ: Which One Should You Choose?

Timberline HDZ® and Timberline UHDZ® are both strong choices, but they’re designed for different priorities. HDZ is a better fit if you want dependable performance, architectural style, and a more accessible price point.

UHDZ is the step up if you want a more premium look and added performance features, including greater dimensional depth and Class 4 impact resistance on qualifying shingles. We can help you compare both options and choose the one that makes the most sense for your home and budget.

Frequently Asked Questions About GAF Timberline HDZ® Shingles

You can verify our certification through GAF’s contractor directory.

Timberline HDZ® shingles can often last around 25–30 years when they’re properly installed and and cared for. Factors such as ventilation, weather exposure, maintenance, and the condition of the roof deck can all affect how long your roof ultimately lasts.

That depends on the condition of the existing roof and local requirements. In many cases, removing the old roofing materials gives us an opportunity to inspect the roof deck and address damaged or deteriorated areas before the new system is installed.

Your siding, brick, stone, trim, roof pitch, and the amount of roof visible from the street can all affect how a shingle color looks once installed. AC Matthews can help you compare available HDZ colors against the exterior features of your home before you make a final selection.

You can build a roofing system using different combinations of products, but certain GAF warranties and system benefits require specific qualifying GAF components. We’ll explain those requirements during the estimate so you can decide which roofing system and warranty level make sense for your project.
