Premium Architectural Shingles
If curb appeal is a major factor in your roof replacement, GAF Timberline UHDZ® offers a premium upgrade from a standard architectural shingle. Its deeper shadow lines and carefully blended colors create a richer, more dimensional appearance, while qualifying shingles also provide Class 4 impact resistance with GAF’s UltraMat™ technology.
AC Matthews Roofing & Exteriors installs Timberline UHDZ® and other GAF roofing systems throughout Maryland and Southern Pennsylvania. As a GAF Master Elite® Roofing Contractor, we can help you choose the right shingle, install it as part of a complete roofing system, and review the warranty options available for your project.
Why Choose Timberline UHDZ®?
Timberline UHDZ® combines a more dimensional architectural look with enhanced performance features, making it a strong choice for homeowners who want both standout curb appeal and added protection from their roofing system.
GAF’s patented Dual Shadow Line creates stronger contrast across the shingles, while specially developed color blends add depth and variation. The result is a thicker, more dimensional appearance that can be especially noticeable on homes with large roof areas, steep slopes, or prominent gables.
Timberline UHDZ® shingles featuring GAF UltraMat™ high-performance fiberglass mat technology achieve a UL 2218 Class 4 impact-resistance rating when sold in qualifying packages. Class 4 is the highest classification under the UL 2218 impact test, making UHDZ worth considering when enhanced tested impact performance is a priority.
Impact ratings are based on controlled laboratory testing and do not guarantee protection against hail or storm damage.
GAF time-release algae-fighting technology protects against blue-green algae discoloration that can create dark streaks on a roof. This added protection is especially valuable during humid conditions where algae growth can affect a roof’s appearance.
When Timberline UHDZ® shingles are installed with the required combination of qualifying GAF accessories, the roofing system may be eligible for GAF’s WindProven™ Limited Wind Warranty with no maximum wind-speed limitation.
Timberline UHDZ® features GAF LayerLock® technology and the StrikeZone® nailing area to help support accurate shingle placement and fastening during installation. Together, these features are designed to promote more consistent installation and help the roofing system perform as intended.
Installed by a GAF Master Elite® Roofing Contractor
While GAF products are built to provide long-term performance, proper installation is just as important to how the roofing system performs over time. As a GAF Master Elite® Roofing Contractor, AC Matthews has met GAF’s standards for licensing, insurance, reputation, training, and professional qualifications. Our team also has access to ongoing product and installation training that helps reinforce proper roofing practices on every project.
That same certification allows us to offer enhanced GAF warranty options on eligible roofing systems, including the Golden Pledge® Limited Warranty. We’ll review the coverage available for your project based on the products and system you choose.
Is UHDZ Worth the Upgrade from Timberline HDZ®?
Timberline HDZ® is an excellent architectural shingle and often makes sense when overall value is the priority. UHDZ is aimed at homeowners who want to move up in appearance and performance. It offers a more pronounced dimensional effect, Class 4 rather than Class 3 impact resistance on qualifying products, and enhanced algae-fighting technology.
If your roof is highly visible or exterior appearance is especially important to you, UHDZ may be worth the additional investment. During your estimate, AC Matthews can show you the differences and help you determine whether the upgrade makes sense for your home and budget.

Frequently Asked Questions About GAF Timberline UHDZ® Shingles
GAF provides an online verification tool that lets you search for a contractor by business name. AC Matthews Roofing & Exteriors currently has its own listing in GAF’s residential contractor directory, so you don’t have to rely solely on our website for verification.
Yes. Looking at physical samples is useful because roof colors can appear different depending on sunlight and the surrounding exterior materials. We can help you compare options with your siding, brick, stone, shutters, and trim rather than choosing solely from an online image.
It can. The shingles are only one component of the roof, and choices involving underlayment, starter shingles, ridge materials, ventilation, leak protection, and other accessories may affect system performance and eligibility for certain GAF warranties.
Not necessarily. Your roof pitch, architecture, existing ventilation, budget, and how visible the roof is from the ground can all influence whether UHDZ is worth the investment. AC Matthews can evaluate those factors and tell you when UHDZ makes sense—or when another GAF option may be a better fit.
